Knee Specialists

Knee replacement surgery is invasive. Damaged knee joint surfaces are removed from bones. They are then shaped to hold a metal or plastic artificial joint (prosthetic). The artificial components are attached to the femur, patella, and tibia using a cement or special adhesive compound. Other knee surgeries include ligaments and meniscal repairs as well as arthroscopy.

If you are experiencing prolonged or severe pain or dysfunction in your knee joint, see your physician. They may refer you to an orthopaedic specialist for further evaluation and treatment. For knee specifics, visit the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) website's Knee & Lower Leg section.
