Ron Andrews, PT, PhD

Associate Professor Emeritus

Ron Andrews, PT, PhD, OCS, is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Orthopaedics/Physical Therapy Program. Ron received his Bachelors Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He practiced initially in acute care before opening his own outpatient orthopedic practice with a specialization in spinal treatment. He received his manual therapy certification from Stanley Paris and the Institute of Graduate Health Sciences and his Master of Science Degree in Therapeutic Sciences from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Ron was on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin - Madison before coming to the University of New Mexico (UNM) to engage in full time academia and pursue a doctoral degree. Ron received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at UNM. His research was in the Laboratory of Cell Pathology and involved cell adhesion and signaling in human basophils.

Ron was the Director of the Physical Therapy Program at UNM for 12 years, stepping down 2005 to devote more time to teaching, research and patient care. Ron taught kinesiology and orthopedic evaluation and treatment. Dr. Andrews’ interests focus on manual therapy, spinal treatment and arthritis, as well as, the basic science areas of connective tissue and articular cartilage physiology, regeneration and repair. Ron retired in October 2018.
