Ways To Give

Beth Provost, PT, PhD
Certified Hand Therapist

Beth Provost
Associate Professor Emeritus

Dr. Beth (Elizabeth) Provost, PT, PhD, CHt, retired from the Division of PT in 2013 as tenured Associate Professor Emeritus, after 29 years of productive service at UNM. Dr. Provost received her entry-level physical therapy (PT) credentials from the University of Pennsylvania, her master's degree in Pediatric PT from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her PhD in Psychological Foundations of Education from UNM. She worked as a physical therapist in various arenas, including adult and pediatric rehabilitation hospitals, outpatient clinics, early intervention, and diagnostic assessment settings.

During the years at UNM, Dr. Provost taught several core courses in the PT curriculum, including Pediatrics, and her pediatric PT research resulted in many publications. Because of her interest in mind-body interactions as well as her experience with T’ai Chi Chih (certified teacher), Ayurveda, yoga, and hypnotherapy (certified hypnotherapist), Dr. Provost also developed a Mind-Body unit within the PT curriculum. In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Provost worked clinically assessing motor development of young children for the Early Childhood Evaluation Program at the UNM Center for Development and Disability, and she was a reviewer for several well-known international journals in the fields of physical therapy and developmental disabilities.

As Emeritus, Dr. Provost continues to consult in the Division of PT when needed, and she continues to enjoy teaching people innovative tools such as self-hypnosis to assist them in using the beneficial power of mind-body connections for healing
