Dr. DeCoster’s clinical practice is the operative treatment of fractures and related conditions including nonunions (fractures that have failed to heal), malunions (fractures healing in poor position), dislocations, ligament and tendon injuries. He also performs arthroscopy of the knee in young patients.

Training: After college at the University of Iowa (1976), he graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School (1980), completed orthopedic residency at the University of Vermont (1985) and fellowship in trauma and sports medicine at the University of Iowa (1986). He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS 1989), diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS 1989, recertification 1999, 2009), past President of the New Mexico Orthopedic Association (NMOA 1993) and a member of many professional societies, including AOA, ORS, OTA, ACSM, AOFAS and NMOA.

Dr. DeCoster has been nationally recognized for his knowledge and surgical expertise by being selected as an examiner for the ABOS, reviewer for top orthopedic journals (JBJS, JAAOS, CORR, JOR, Foot and Ankle International) and section editor for OKO, the online journal of the Orthopedic Academy (AAOS).
