The Fahey-Echols Orthopaedic Resident Endowed Fund

Annually, five newly-minted physicians begin their orthopaedic residency for five years at the University of New Mexico. They hone their skills as physicians and emerge from the program as skilled orthopaedic surgeons. It is a time of enormous challenge not only intellectually but financially.

Both Dr. Fahey and Dr. Echols have experienced the UNM Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation as a resident and faculty member. Dr. Fahey came to UNM for his orthopaedics residency in 1973 and spent a significant portion of his career in the department. Dr. Echols began his orthopaedic residency at UNM in 1974 and continues his career here. Both doctors are renowned among generations of residents whose careers they have helped develop.

The Fahey-Echols Orthopaedic Residents Endowed Fund will help our residents with educational expenses they face. It also demonstrates the UNM School of Medicine’s commitment to providing an excellent orthopaedic residency program.

When fully funded, the Fahey-Echols Fund will:

  • Help residents travel to conferences
  • Subsidize the cost of reference books and other supplies
  • Provide additional leadership training opportunities to enhance residents' educational experience

Your Gift Matters

We have an ambitious $250,000 goal for the Fahey-Echols Fund. When fully endowed, the fund will generate income to provide critical support to orthopaedic residents at UNM. Show your support by making a donation to the Fahey-Echols Orthopaedic Resident Endowed Fund.

How to Make a Gift

There are several ways you may choose to make a gift. For example, an outright gift by check or credit card is a quick and easy way to get involved by donating online. Many people choose to make a payroll deduction gift through the UNM Foundation. You help meet the University’s participation goals, and 100% of your gift will go to the fund you designate. You may also want to consider making a larger commitment and paying that pledge over several years. The School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation is happy to work with you to set up a pledge.

Please call Development Coordinator Ryan Wood at 505-272-8745, or email for more information. We appreciate your support and look forward to hearing from you.
