Name: Dustin T. Briggs, MD
Title: Assistant Professor
Specialty: Adult Lower Extremity Reconstruction
Medical School: University of Iowa
Residency: University of New Mexico
Fellowship: Lower Extremity Reconstruction - Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, CA

Dr. Briggs specializes in the treatment of hip and knee arthritis.  His surgical spectrum of practice includes minimally invasive partial knee replacements (patellofemoral and unicompartmental arthroplasty), total hip and knee replacements, complex revisions of hip and knee replacements, and periprosthetic fractures.   In young patients who suffer from knee arthritis, Dr. Briggs also specializes in joint preservation including osteotomies (bone and joint re-alignment) and cartilage restoration.

Dr. Briggs earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of New Mexico (“corn raised, chile blazed”).  He completed fellowship in Lower Extremity Reconstruction at Scripps Clinic, in La Jolla, California.

His research interests include the use of osteochondral allograft transplant for cartilage injuries of the knee, mechanical alignment and soft tissue balancing strategies during total knee arthroplasty, the use of computer (navigation) and robotic assistance for knee and hip replacements, and the theory of low-carbohydrate diets for weight loss.  He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Briggs enjoys getting to know patients on a personal level. He has an enthusiasm for patient care and puts patients at ease during the often-stressful treatment of joint pain. His joy of joint replacement surgery is with returning patients to their hobbies and a more active lifestyle.
