Spine Specialists

Orthopaedic spine surgeons specialize in the evaluation, treatmentspine, and rehabilitation of spinal conditions and deformities affecting the neck mid-low back areas. Spine surgery is rarely an initial treatment. However, there are a few medical emergencies that may require immediate surgical treatment.

For most patients, spine surgery is only considered after a long course of nonsurgical therapy. Back pain is usually a chronic problem and often takes considerable time to resolve. Most commonly, doctors will advise at least 3-6 months of conservative treatment before considering spine surgery. For spine specifics, visit the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) website's Neck & Back section.
