ALUMNI

Timothy McAdams, Class of 2000 - Medical Director of the San Francisco 49ers since 2007. McAdams is profiled in UNM Medicine Fall 2016.

FACULTY

David Bennett, Assistant Professor, is Secretary of the Southwest Orthopaedic Trauma Association and a member of its Compliance Board for 2017.

Eric Benson, Associate Professor, is serving as a member of New Mexico Orthopaedic Association’s Board of Directors.

David H. Chafey III, Assistant Professor, is serving as a Junior Board Member for the Western Orthopaedic Association (WOA) through 2017. Established in 1932, the WOA has more than 1,500 members and helps ensure people in the western region of the United States receive high quality, ethical care by providing orthopaedists with educational programs, opportunities to foster collegiality and ways to influence health policy.

Chafey is also serving as President of the Southwest Orthopaedic Trauma Association for 2017 and is Vice President of the New Mexico Orthopaedic Association until June 2017 when he assumes the role of President.

Thomas A. DeCoster, Professor and Chief, Division of Orthopaedic Trauma, has accepted an Associate Editor position on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS) for a 3-year term, effective January 2017. For more than 125 years, JBJS has served as the gold standard in peer-reviewed scientific information in the field. The independent, non-profit journal publishes evidence-based research to enhance the quality of care for orthopaedic patients.

DeCoster is also Treasurer of the New Mexico Orthopaedic Association and is serving as member of the Southwest Orthopaedic Trauma Association’s Compliance Board for 2017.

Paul Echols, Professor, is serving as a member of New Mexico Orthopaedic Association’s Board of Directors.

Rick J. Gehlert, Professor, has joined the investigative team of a FORTIFY Clinical Trial dealing with tibial fractures. Under the direction of Dr. Doug Dirschl at the University of Chicago, the international study’s objective is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a resorbable ceramic bone void filler with gentamicin. At least 200 patients will be randomized at centers in North America and Europe.

Deana Mercer, Associate Professor, is serving as member of the Southwest Orthopaedic Trauma Association’s Compliance Board for 2017. She is Past President of the organization which strives to “build Teamwork in Trauma Care” through orthopaedic medical education, research and trauma courses.

Daniel Wascher, Professor, is serving as a member of New Mexico Orthopaedic Association’s Board of Directors.
